A British national lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail on charges of being a al-Qaeda recruiter has alleged sexual harassment by jail security personnel and inhuman behavior by the authorities.

27-year-old Shamiun Rahman, a British national of Bangladeshi origin, was arrested in September for allegedly having involvement in recruiting Rohingya Muslims for terror outfit al-Qaeda.

In his application before the Additional Sessions Judge, Rahman said, “Five personnel came and searched me and touched my body very inappropriately… and after that they told to strip my clothes… and deliberately harassed me sexually.....After stripping my clothes, they touched my rectum one by one,"  the Indian Express reported

A Delhi court directed the jail authorities to file response on the application moved by advocate M S Khan by November 8.

The accused alleged that he was forced to live in inhuman conditions inside the jail and it lacks basic facilities such as proper food, drinking water, sanitation and medical aid.

The Special Cell of Delhi police had alleged that the process of radicalisation of Rahman alias Raju Bhai began in a jail in London where he was lodged on charges of rash driving.

In a separate incident, Tihar Jail Superintendent will on Friday appear before a Delhi court over a plea filed by jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana, alleging inhuman treatment meted out to him in the prison.

In the plea, Bawana alleged that the jail inmates were kept locked round-the-clock and not allowed fresh air and sunlight. He also complained about the poor quality of food and stinking cell.

In September this year, around 47 inmates of Tihar jail had alleged they were mercilessly beaten up by security personnel inside the prison, and medically examined.
