All MCD Schools In Delhi To Be Closed Tomorrow Amid Heavy Rain

All schools of the the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be closed on Tuesday amid heavy rainfall in the national capital and surrounding regions.

For the past few days, Delhi has witnessed record-breaking rainfall. Earlier on Monday, the Yamuna River also breached the danger mark of 204.5 metres. 

The closure of the schools, however, is only for the students and teachers and heads of department would need to come and all offices would be functional, reported PTI, citing the government order.

"In view of the heavy rainfall in Delhi and alert issued by the India Meteorological Department on adverse weather conditions, it has been decided that all MCD schools, MCD-aided and recognised schools will be closed on July 11," the order stated, as per PTI.

In the weekly forecast for Delhi published on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm are likely in Delhi throughout this week. 

Last week, Delhi received the highest single-day rainfall in 40 years as it recorded 153 mm rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Sunday. Waterlogging has been reported at several places in Delhi.

The low-lying areas near Yamuna in Delhi are considered prone to flooding and are inhabited by around 37,000 people, reported PTI.
