Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the necessity of linking databases and adopting an AI-driven analytical approach to address emerging security challenges during the inauguration of the 58th conferences of DGPs and IGPs.
Addressing the conference, Shah underscored the importance of uniformity in the structures, size, and skill of counter-terror mechanisms across the country.
He highlighted two significant decisions made by the Narendra Modi government—the National Education Policy and the enactment of three criminal justice laws to replace British-era statutes. According to Shah, the country entered the "Amrit Kaal" in 2023.
Shah stated that the new laws prioritize the delivery of justice over punishment, anticipating that their implementation would modernize and make the country's criminal justice system more scientific.
Emphasizing the need for linking databases and adopting AI-driven analytical approaches for security challenges, Shah pointed out an overall improvement in the security scenario since 2014. Notably, he highlighted a reduction in violence in critical hotspots such as Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and areas affected by Left Wing Extremism.
The home minister stressed the necessity of training police officers from SHO levels to DGP levels and technology upgradation from police stations to police headquarters for the successful implementation of the three new laws. He also emphasized the role of internal security in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of India becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Shah observed that the conference has evolved over the years into a think tank, facilitating decision-making and the formulation of new security strategies. The conference will deliberate on various critical security-related issues, including border security, cyber-threats, radicalization, fraudulent issuance of identity documents, and threats arising from AI.
Approximately 250 officers, ranging from Director General of Police (DGP) to Inspector General of Police (IGP), are physically attending the conference at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, while over 200 others are participating virtually.
During the event, Shah distributed police medals for meritorious service to IB officers and awarded trophies for the three best police stations. He paid homage to security forces personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the country's top police officers before addressing them at a formal session, while Shah is going to be present throughout the conference spanning several sessions. Modi will attend the conference from January 6-7, his office said.
