Punjab Police on Thursday detained an aide of Khalisatni leader Amritpal Singh while the former was taking an Air India flight to London from the international airport in Amritsar.

Gurinder Singh, an aide of Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh, was detained at Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, according to a report by India Today.

Earlier, the police had served a lookout notice for Singh, who hails from Jalandhar and has been allegedly handling the social media accounts of Amritpal Singh.

In February, early this year, radical preacher Amritpal Singh's supporters, some of them brandishing swords and guns, broke through barricades and stormed into a police station complex in Punjab camping there till they were "assured" that an arrested man would be released. Hundreds of supporters of the Punjab-based ‘Waris Punjab De’ group protested against the arrest of pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh's close aide Lovepreet Toofan. Visuals emerged of protestors breaking through police barricades with swords and guns outside Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar.

The next day, Lovepreet Singh walked out of a jail in Amritsar on Friday, hours after a court in Ajnala ordered his release based on an application by the police.
