Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa's constituency RK Nagar will vote on December 21 to choose a new representative, the Election Commission has said.
Voting for Sikandra(UP), Sabang(West Bengal), Pakke-Kasang and Likabali(Arunachal Pradesh) will also take place on December 21 and counting of votes will be held on December 24.
The Madras High Court. had, early this week, directed the poll panel to conduct the byelection to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, lying vacant for nearly a year, by December 31.
The constituency fell vacant after the death of sitting member and then Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5 last. An earlier notification for holding the bypoll on April 12 was rescinded over alleged electoral malpractices.
The EC had argued that systematic bribery of voters had vitiated the atmosphere to such an extent that free and fair poll was not possible in the constituency.
