The month-long election cycle in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram – is underway. While voters have already sealed the fates of their leaders in three states, heated campaigning is underway for Telangana and Rajasthan, where political parties are trading allegations of corruption, crime, and national security.
Meanwhile, the manifestoes are galore with big promises to woo the voters. Women issues, farmer issues, reservations, health, LPG cylinders and electricity are among some of the major promises made by parties this time.
This is the last cycle of Assembly elections this year and is being seen as a litmus test for the Lok Sabha elections slated for early next year. Will the outcome decide which way the wind will blow for general elections? The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
