In a frightening incident, fifteen schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats via email on Friday morning. The sudden and unexpected atmosphere of fear forced the school authorities to evacuate the students before the anti-sabotage and bomb squads of the city police emabarked on their investigation, a senior police official said.

About the bomb threats

According to police, the perpetrators practised the trick of masking the IP address of the origin from where the mails were sent.

As per media reports, as many as 15 schools with over 5,000 children have been forced to take emergency action in the wake of the threats on Friday, including sending the children back home or making them wait for police clearance to return to classes.

The school's official message said, “We are encountering an unexpected situation at school today. The school has received a security threat from unknown sources. As we hold the safety of our children at utmost priority, we have decided to disperse the students immediately,” a message from the NEEV School to parents stated on Friday morning. “Kids are being sent home as per the advice of the bomb squad. We are evaluating the threat but for safety kids go home.”

Similar incident reported in 2022

This was not the first time when the Bengaluru schools encountered an attempt of fearmongering of this magnitude. Back in 2022, sixteen schools in Bengaluru received bomb threat mails and surprisingly Friday's mails share a significant resemblence with the previous year's mails.

NEEV, KLAY, Vidyashilp are some of the schools where such checks are being conducted.

In 2022, the threat e-mail read: “A very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, attention is not a joke, this is not a joke, a very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer including yours, do not delay, now everything is only in your hands!”
