BJP's Mega Rejig In 4 States Ahead Of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

BJP has made organisational changes in its four state units ahead of key state elections scheduled later this year and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections and key assembly elections in the country, BJP has made changes in its four state units by appointing new party heads. 

BJP has appointed G Kishan Reddy as the party’s state president of Telangana, D Purandeshwari has been appointed as the state president of Andhra Pradesh, former CM Babulal Marandi becomes the state president of Jharkhand, while Sunil Jakhar has been appointed as the party's state president of Punjab.

The party has made an organisational rejig ahead of key state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Jakhar has previously served as the Congress's state chief in Punjab.

BJP also announced the appointment of Eatala Rajender as the chairman of Election Management Committee in Telangana. The elections in Telangana are slated to be held later this year.

The other poll-bound states include Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The BJP’s focus is also going to be Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar which constitute large share of Lok Sabha seats.

These states would be the focus of the ministerial and organisational changes for the party.

Earlier, PM Modi chaired a marathon meeting of his council of ministers, intensifying the speculation over a cabinet rejig, against the backdrop of the split in the NCP in Maharashtra.

The NCP split in  Maharashtra is seen as a the wider thrust to deal a blow to the efforts of the Opposition to join hands against the BJP.

The party has announced changes amid a flurry meetings chaired by BJP president JP Nadda, Union home minister Amit Shah and general secretary B L Santosh.

The announcement comes a day after PM Modi chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Delhi.

The party’s has announced changes to begin its preparations for crucial Assembly elections scheduled later this year, as well as the highly-anticipated 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and BJP general secretary Santosh have held multiple rounds of deliberations, focusing on organisational and political matters.
