India is all set to launch its third lunar mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-3, at 2.35 pm today from the spaceport in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the ISRO team and said that July 14 2023 will always be etched in golden letters as far as India’s space sector is concerned.
"Chandrayaan-3, our third lunar mission, will embark on its journey. This remarkable mission will carry the hopes and dreams of our nation," he tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi is currently on his two-day visit to France. While addressing the Indian diaspora in Paris, Modi hailed the country’s strength and the creation of a mini-India wherever Indians go. “The 21st century will only move forward on the basis of technology and talent. While I am speaking to you, reverse counting for the launch of Chandrayaan3 has started. India-France partnership can help show new direction to the world," he said.
Chandrayaan-3 will soft-land on the surface of the Moon in what will be the second attempt after Isro failed with the Chandrayaan-2 mission four years ago. The spacecraft, equipped with a lander and rover, will detach from the Propulsion Module after being injected into lunar orbit.
Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik who makes beautiful sand sculptures along Odisha’s Puri beach, created a massive sculpture to commemorate the launch day of Chandrayaan-3.
'Fat boy' LVM3-M4 rocket will carry Chandrayaan-3 on Friday as part of the country's ambitious moon mission. A success would make India only the fourth country to achieve the feat after the United States, China and the former Soviet Union.
