The Confederation Of All India Traders(CAIT) has announced a 48-hour bandh in Delhi on February 2-3 in protest against the sealing drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, reported ANI.

The sealing drive had started last year in December by the municipal corporation.

As many as 51 commercial units in the posh Defence Colony Market in south Delhi were sealed on December 22 for "not depositing" conversion charges as per provisions in the city's Master Plan 2021.

The south Delhi civic body later sealed a wedding venue in Chhattarpur for having an "additional built-up area" in violation of norms, the SDMC said, as scores of area traders protested the sealing drive.

The action by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation was initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee.

On Wednesday, the south and north municipal corporations carried out sealing drives targeting 76 properties for misuse and unauthorised construction. As many as 16 units were sealed by the SDMC in the west zone that include Honda Car Showroom, Pind Balluchi restaurant, Revive Hospital and others. Also, 60 different properties in five different locations were sealed by North corporation, reported The Times of India.
