Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the continuing violence in Manipur is disturbing and is a result of the politics of hate, division, and anger.

Rahul also said the continuous violence in the northeastern state needs to be stopped immediately.

Manipir has been in the grips of ethnic violence since May 3 when clashes erupted between the state's Metei and tribal communities. Over 150 people have been killed and around 60,000 have been displaced. Houses, places of worship, and political establishments have been attacked. The handling of the situation and the silence of Prime Minister on the violence for over two months have been slammed by the Opposition, including by Rahul who said on Friday that Modi seems to have forgotten that Manipur is burning for months as he was laughing and making jokes in the Parliament.

"So, it is important to to keep everyone together as a family," said Rahul on Sunday, who was on a two-day visit to Kerala.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Community Disability Management Center (CDMC) at St Joseph High School Auditorium in Kodenchery, Rahul said the wounds inflicted as a result of the violence would take many years to heal, reported PTI.

"The sadness and anger will not go away so easily," said Rahul, adding that the violence in Manipur was a lesson to him on what happens when you use politics of division, hatred and anger in a state, as per PTI.

Rahul is on a visit to Kerala for the first time after his reinstatement as MP of Wayanad, Kerala. Rahul was disqualified as a Member of Parliament in March after he was convicted and sentence to two years in the 'Modi surname' defamation case. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court stayed the conviction that paved the way for his reinstatement as an MP.
