The cyclone Biparjoy is going to bring rainfall in Delhi and four other states, according to an independent weather forecast.
The cyclone Biparjoy, expected to make landfall on Thursday evening, has already brought rainfall in parts of Gujarat.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of weather forecasting company Skymet, told NDTV that Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will get rainfall in the next four days.
He told NDTV, "By 18-19 June, the depression will be closer to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and northwest Uttar Pradesh. These places will receive light to moderate rain and wind speed is expected to be 30-40 km per hour," Skymet vice president Mahesh Palawat told NDTV."
Palawat also said that the storm would move to the west coast and to Pakistan and would only have a "deficient rain" in central and east India.
He told NDTV, "This cyclonic storm, however, will move towards Pakistan and the west coast of India, leading to deficient rain in the central and eastern parts of the country. Over the next two weeks, we do not expect much rain over those parts. Coastal areas of south India, however, will experience rainfall."
Separately, the Indian Meteorological Department has said that the cyclone Biparjoy is separate from the monsoon system and would not have much effect on it.
IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told PTI, "Now, it is completely detached from the monsoonal flow. We do not expect any largescale impact either on the monsoon advance or its performance."
The IMD has also said that Biparjoy would have speed up to 150 kmph when it makes landfall on Thursday evening.
"Cyclone Biparjoy is very likely to cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau port (Gujarat) by the evening of June 15 as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speeds of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph," reported PTI, citing an IMD statement.
The PTI reported that several districts of PTI reported rainfall in the past 24 hours. Citing official data, the PTI reported that, in the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning, 54 talukas in Saurashtra and Kutch districts received more than 10 mm of rainfall.
"The rainfall was more intense in the districts of Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Junagadh. Khambhaliya taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district received the highest 121 mm of rain, followed by Dwarka (92 mm) and Kalyanpur (70 mm) during this period, the SEOC said," reported the PTI.
