Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal said on Saturday that their 181 helpline has received more than 6.30 lakh calls between July 2022 and June 2023.
While addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Maliwal said that 92,004 "unique cases" like domestic violence, conflict with neighbours, rape and sexual assault, POCSO, kidnapping and cyber crimes were registered through the helpline during the period.
Swati Maliwal told the media, "We have released the annual data of DCW’s women helpline 181. In the data, we have informed that the DCW 181 helpline received over over 40 lakh calls in the last 7 years. Last year itself, we received 6,30,000 calls."
According to Maliwal, the helpline is supported by a team of volunteers on the ground.
The DCW operates the 181 helpline for women in distress and is available 24X7. The callers are advised and the complaint is marked to authorities like Delhi's police, hospitals or homeless shelters if necessary for redress.
Reportedly, in most cases, the women are met by a team of counselling staff who assist them in their distress.
