In a decisive move, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has swiftly responded to an Instagram video that went viral, shedding light on an alarming incident of alleged sexual harassment that transpired aboard a Delhi-Mumbai SpiceJet flight on August 16.
The DCW, displaying its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women, has taken suo moto cognizance of the distressing incident, prompting the issuance of notices to both the Delhi Police and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Instagram video captures the gravity of the situation, portraying a passenger's purported attempt to capture explicit images of a female flight attendant and his co-passenger. Upon investigation, objectionable pictures of these women were discovered on the passenger's mobile device, as reported by PTI.
The DCW Chairperson, Swati Maliwal, expressed strong condemnation, stating, "We cannot allow the occurrence of such incidents to become a distressing norm. The rise in complaints of sexual harassment during flights is deeply concerning and will not be tolerated." In line with her stance, Maliwal has called for an immediate FIR to be registered and a thorough investigation to be conducted, advocating for stringent measures to ensure that the guilty are held accountable.
Urging a proactive approach, the DCW has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), IGI Airport, and the Director General of DGCA, demanding detailed action taken reports to be submitted by August 23. The DCW's stance reinforces the demand for a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment during flights, urging the DGCA to take robust steps to prevent such reprehensible incidents from occurring in the future.
