The accused was arrested on Wednesday and it has since emerged that the attack happened over money. The police said they have recovered the weapon used in the crime. In the video, the boy appears to be in an inebriated state.

The police said the boy stabbed the man over 55 times, slit his throat, dragged his body through the street, and then danced around it in East Delhi's Welcome Colony, according to PTI. The incident took place around 11:15 pm on Tuesday and the man died on the way to the hospital.

He then dragged him to a bylane where he continued to stab him on his face, neck, back, beneath eyes more than 55 times," an official investigating the crime told PTI, adding that the accused was drunk at the time of the incident.

The motivation for the crime was to allegedly steal money for food, according to reports.

"The motivation for the murder, allegedly, was to steal money to eat biryani. The frenzied killing, allegedly over ₹ 350, took place in northeast Delhi's Welcome area, police said," reported NDTV, adding that the two didn't appear to know each other.

Separately, NDTV reported sources in the police as saying that the accused was involved in another murder case in 2022, which was also motivated by robbery.

"The police tracked down the accused and arrested him. He had allegedly stolen ₹ 350 from the victim, who has not been identified till now...According to police, the accused is part of a gang of three to four minors who are responsible for a string of violent crimes," reported NDTV.
