Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that every flood-fit family in the national capital would be compensated with Rs 10,000.

Besides the monetary compensation, Kejriwal said in a tweet that the Delhi government would set up special camps for documents washed away in floods and would also provide uniform and books to children.

The announcement comes as Delhi faces worst flooding in decades amid record rains and water level in Yamuna. Several parts of Delhi were submerged and several roads turned into canals as rainwater could not be drained and the overflowing Yamuna river entered the city.

In a tweet in Hindi, Kejriwal said, "Lots of poor people living on the banks of Yamuna have suffered great losses. Some families have lost all of their belongings."

Kejriwal then listed the three kinds of compensation.

"One, as financial aid, we will give Rs 10,000 to every flood-affected family. Two, those who have lost documents like Aadhaar Card, we will hold special camps for them. Three, those children who have lost uniforms and books will be provided books by schools," said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been in a war of words over Delhi floods. While AAP claimed that the Delhi floods were a result of a conspiracy hatched by the BJP, the BJP demanded a probe into whether any desilting of Yamuna river and drains was done by the Kejriwal government and what was spent on it.
