A court in Delhi has sought a response from the minor complainant on the cancellation report filed by Delhi Police in the sexual harassment against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
After weeks of protests by wrestlers, including top medallists like Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, two FIRs were lodged against Singh. One related to the allegations by adult wrestlers under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the second related to the allegation of a minor wrestler under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Later, the minor complainant withdrew her allegations and, while the Delhi Police charged Singh with sexual harassment and stalking in the first case related to women wrestlers, the police filed for the cancellation of the complaint under POCSO Act.
Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor issued notice to the complainant during in-chamber proceedings and directed them to file their response to the police report by August 1, when the court will further hear the matter, reported PTI.
"In the POCSO matter, after the completion of the investigation, we have submitted a police report under section 173, CrPC, requesting for a cancellation of the case based upon the statements of the complainant i.e the father of the victim and the victim herself," said a statement by Delhi Police earlier.
In the other case, Singh was charged with sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment) and 354D (stalking) of IPC.
