In a bid to solve a murder mystery, Delhi Police sought the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). As per a report by NDTV, besides identifying the victim, it also aided the arrest of the main accused responsible for the murder.

About the murder case

The case started on January 10 when police discovered the body of a young man under the Geeta Colony flyover in east Delhi.

According to the post-mortem report, what made the case difficult for the police was the absence of any identification on or around the body despite the cause of death being strangulation.

Police turn to AI

Delhi Police resorted to Artificial Intelligence(AI) to resolve the case. They faced the first obstacle in identifying the body as the face of the man defied recognition through all the conventional methods. To overcome this hurdle, police reportedly reconstructed the victim's face, resurrecting him from the dead in digital form.

Following the 'digital resurrection', the police printed around 500 posters of the victim's face and placed them across various locations in the national capital and circulated digital versions through WhatsApp groups.

As per media reports, the first breakthrough came when a man called the police claiming that the man in the posters was his elder brother Hitendra.

After conducting further investigation,  police came to know that Hitendra had been embroiled in a dispute with three individuals, leading to a fatal altercation.

Further probe also revealed that the three men had strangled Hitendra to death with the help of a woman.

The police quickly acted on this newfound information and arrested four individuals, including the woman.
