After days of scorching heatwave in Delhi, the national capital region on Saturday woke up to gusty winds and heavy rains that lashed several parts of it.
Waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of Delhi after the rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department said a cluster of cloud patches is passing through Delhi-NCR.
Under its influence,with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 40-70 kmph would continue in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas during the next two hours, it said around 6.30 am.
On Friday, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain with gusty winds would continue in the Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas during the next two hours.
Flight operations impacted
Owing to the unfavoorable weather conditions, flight operations are impacted, the Delhi airport said.
They have asked the flyers to contact the airlines concerned for updated flight information, reported news agency ANI. According to Delhi airport sources, four flights headed for Delhi have been diverted to Jaipur due to weather conditions in the national capital.
As per IGI airport data, today morning , Delhi experienced moderate to severe thunderstorm with very strong gusty winds. It reached at 0600 hours IST today to westerly-southwesterly 65kmph gusting 99kmph, it added.
What does the weather office say?
Under the influence of a western disturbance active over the western Himalayan region, intermittent rains are predicted over northwest India, including the national capital and its surrounding areas, over the next two to three days, according to the IMD.
The regional weather office, in its latest seven-day weather bulletin, has predicted a generally cloudy sky, light rain accompanied with thunderstorms with gusty winds at many places for the next few days. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 37 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.
The weather office has also released an advisory following the rainfall update. It suggested everyone in and around the city to follow traffic advisories, asked people to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. It further suggested to avoid travel if possible.
