While the central government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure digitisation across every nook and corner of the country, people in Kotra village of Rajasthan have to climb trees to get their ration processed.
The villagers have to climb onto trees before waiting for hours in queue for their turn to get their fingerprints and biometrics verified by the PoS (point of sale)machines. Subsequently, they have to go back to ration shops to collect the goods, reported The Times of India.
To get proper internet connectivity, the ration dealers have to climb on trees to use their PoS machines. People have to wait daily for hours to get their biometric verification to purchase ration items like sugar, kerosene.
Out of 76 ration centres in the area, 13 have very poor connectivity.
Important commodities like sugar, kerosene are distributed through Public Distribution System which has been digitised at most of the places. However, the move has only created more problem for the villagers who also face lack of basic facilities like electricity and road connectivity.
Similarly, Rajasthan government's e-Mitra centres that have been set up to ensure transparency and convenience in providing different types of services has also miserably failed.
According to a Huffingtonpost report, the Atal Seva Kendras do not work regularly. There are no computers at the centres and the e-Mitra person in Atal Seva Kendras have licenses to more than one centre. Rampant corruption is prevalent across most of the centres.
