Five terrorists were killed in Kashmir’s Shopian in an encounter that has been underway since Friday night.
Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir, Shesh Paul Vaid, has confirmed the killings in a tweet.
“4 more bodies of terrorists visible at encounter site kiloora Shopian taking the total to 5 terrorists killed. Good Job boys, good for peace,” he said in a tweet.
The body, which was recovered from the site of the encounter in Shopian's Killora Village on Friday night, has been identified as a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Umar Malik. The weapon recovered along with him was an AK-47.
The security forces had cordoned off the area last night following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there and had started a search operation there.
Earlier, Kashmir police in a tweet had said a group of terrorists was tracked leading to a gun battle at Kiloora in Shopian. “In the initial cordon 1 terrorist was killed. Search operation continues. A group is learnt to be part of a proscribed terror outfit LeT,” it had said.
