US President Joe Biden Arrives In Delhi, To Have Bilateral Meeting With PM Modi Ahead Of G20 Summit

This is the first visit of Joe Biden to India as the President of the United States. Earlier, he visited India as the Vice President during Barack Obama's presidency.

US President Joe Biden has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the G-20 Summit.

Ahead of the G-20 Summit, Biden is set to have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister's Residence on Friday. 

This is Biden's visit to India as the President of the United States. Earlier, he visited India as the Vice President during Barack Obama's presidency. 

Biden is among the heads of state and government of the world's top countries who have started arriving in India for the G-20 Summit. The yearlong presidency of India of Group of 20 (G-20) is set to conclude with the G-20 Summit which the Modi government has projected as a sign of India's rising profile at the world stage. 

Minister of State for Civil Aviation General (Retired) VK Singh received Biden at the Delhi airport.

From the airport, Biden departed for the hotel. Later in the evening, he would travel to the Prime Minister's Residence for a bilateral meeting with Modi.

Ahead of arriving in India, Biden tweeted that the visit to India for G-20 Summit for would be focussed on "making progress on Americans' priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver".

Separately, the White House said that Biden will "work with allies and partners to further strengthen the global economy" at the G-20 Summit. 

There are also signs that a new deal could be signed between the leaders of India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and United States for a railway connectivity project in the Middle Eastern countries, according to a report by Axios. If the deal materialises, a bilateral meeting could also take place between Biden and Saudi Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman, said the report.
