Gallantry Awards: 72 J&K Cops, 119 Personnel From Naxal-Hit Areas Given Medals | Check Here

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released the list of Gallantry and Service Medals on Thursday, the eve of Republic Day 2024. A total of 1132 personnel of Police, Fire Service, Home Guard and Civil Defence and Correctional Service have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals, MHA said

President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) has been awarded to two and Medal for Gallantry (GM) to 275 personnel, the MHA said.

Among the majority of the 277 Gallantry Awards, 119 personnel are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 133 from the Jammu and Kashmir region and 25 from other regions are being awarded for their gallant action.

The 277 Gallantry Medals comprise 275 awards given to 72 personnel from J&K Police, 18 to personnel from Maharashtra, 26 to personnel from Chhattisgarh, 23 to personnel from Jharkhand, 15 to personnel from Odisha, eight to personnel from Delhi, 65 to personnel from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 21 to personnel from Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the remaining are personnel from the other States/UTs and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

Out of 102 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), 94 have been awarded to Police Service, four to Fire Service and four to Civil Defence and Home Guard Service.

Meanwhile, of the 753 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), 667 have been awarded to Police Service, 32 to Fire Service, 27 to Civil Defence& Home Guard Service and 27 to Correctional Service.

Gallantry awards are announced twice a year - first on Republic Day and then Independence Day.
