Govt Hikes LPG Subsidy Under Ujjwala Scheme, Beneficiaries To Pay Rs 603 Per 14.2 Kg Cylinder Now

On Wednesday, the government increased the subsidy for underprivileged women who acquired cooking gas connections through the Ujjwala scheme, raising it from the existing Rs 200 per cylinder to Rs 300.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced that the subsidy paid to poor women who got cooking gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme has been increased and they will have to pay Rs 603 for every 14.2 kg cylinder from now on instead of Rs 703. 

On Wednesday, the government increased the subsidy for underprivileged women who acquired cooking gas connections through the Ujjwala scheme, raising it from the existing Rs 200 per cylinder to Rs 300.

Ujjwala beneficiaries currently pay Rs 703 per 14.2-kg cylinder as against the market price of Rs 903. After the decision of the Union Cabinet, they will now pay Rs 603.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur during a cabinet briefing today said, "On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, reduction of Rs 200 (on LPG prices) was announced, which led to LPG rates coming down to Rs 900 from Rs 1100. Today, a new announcement is being made in which the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana will now get Rs 300 subsidy instead of Rs 200."
