Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) top leader Pradipsinh Vaghela says he has resigned from the post of general secretary of the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year. He was appointed as the general secretary in 2016.
The resignation comes amid reports of an alleged rebellion against Gujarat BJP president CR Patil in south Gujarat. Earlier this week, three BJP workers were arrested by the Surat Crime Branch from south Gujarat for defamating Paatil, alleging him of indulging in corruption over the allocation of portfolios to various party leaders.
An FIR was registered in this regard by BJP MLA Sandeep Desai from the Choryasi constituency, following which an arrest was made. In a similar case, Jinendra Shah was arrested by the Surat Crime Branch for defaming Paatil in July this year.
Earlier in April this year, general secretary Bhargav Bhatt was removed from the top post by the party's high command under Paati's leadership. Gujarat BJP is left with two general secretaries from four earlier. The Gujarat BJP has four general secretary posts, and now the party is left with only two general secretaries, Rajni Patel and Vinod Chavda.
