Special orders were issued here on Saturday to protect forests and various public properties in the district from fire incidents.
With the order, issued under the Himachal Pradesh Village and Small Town Patrolling Act-1964, District Magistrate Debasweta Banik assigned men of all villages the responsibility to prevent fire incidents and protect forests and public properties from fire damage.
The order will remain in force for the next six months.
Banik said that it was also the responsibility of every citizen to protect public property in their areas. Therefore, all residents of the district should take special care in protecting these public properties and forests from fire, she said.
Hamirpur district has huge pine trees, and pine needles are given to catch fire during the summer causing huge losses to the government and private properties.
