The High Court of Karnataka on Friday dismissed a petition by Congress candidate from Dharwad Assembly Constituency, Vinay Kulkarni, seeking permission to enter it and stay there for a month.
Kulkarni is the prime accused in the murder of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda in 2016 and was granted bail by the Supreme Court on the condition that he would not be allowed to enter Dharwad without the permission of the jurisdictional court.
The jurisdictional Special Court in Bengaluru had rejected the request following which he approached the High Court on Thursday.
While rejecting the petition of the former MLA, Justice K Natarajan said that the judgment will detail the reasons for dismissing the petition.
Kulkarni’s advocate argued that he was contesting the upcoming Assembly election from Dharwad and needs to be in the constituency to canvass leading to the voting day.
The HC observed that it was the party which had given him ticket to contest and should have known that he was forbidden by the court to enter Dharwad.
