Heavy Rains In States: 2 People Swept Away In Maharashtra; Red Alert In Gujarat

Two persons were swept away in swollen water bodies in the last two days. While the body of one of them was recovered, efforts were on to trace the other person, they said. On Wednesday, a man, identified as Kaushal Doshi (38),was killed after a tree fell on him in Mumbai's Malad area.

As heavy downpour continues in several states of the country, Maharashtra witnessed a fresh spell of rain which pounded Thane and neighbouring Palghar district in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.

The incessant downpour has resulted into water-logging in many areas and a number of incidents of tree fall while a number of cars were also damaged in Thane district in rain-related incidents.

As per media reports, two persons were swept away in swollen water bodies in the last two days.

The officials said that while the body of one of them was recovered, efforts were on to trace the other person.

A portion of a compound wall of the upscale NRI Complex in Navi Mumbai township of Thane district collapsed on Wednesday night after heavy rains, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Dr Babasaheb Rajale told PTI on Thursday.

No person was injured in the incident, he said, adding a few cars parked in the complex were damaged.

A 16-year-old boy from Diva in Thane city was swept away in a swollen nullah on Wednesday night and efforts were still on to trace him, officials said.

Mumbai lalso has witnessed flooding, waterlogging and casualties due to the heavy rains.

Red Alert in Gujarat

Gujarat experienced the strong impact of south-west monsoon on Tuesday.

The weather office has issued a red alert,  for the south Gujarat districts Navsari and Valsad.

Very heavy rainfall is predicted for these districts during the next three days, officials said.

Heavy rain in Bengal 

Kolkata and its adjoining areas also witnessed heavy rains on Wednesday which affected the normal life and causing traffic jams during the morning office hours.

More downpours have been predicted in both Gangetic South as well as sub-Himalayan North Bengal, the Met Department said.

Situation in Himachal

In the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, moderate to heavy rains were witnessed on Wednesday, triggering landslides and leading to the closure of over 100 roads across the state.

Four people were killed and one other was injured in a car accident on Wednesday as the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off and fell into a gorge on Bhadrash-Rohru link road.
