National Capital Delhi has been ranked first for the highest cases of crimes against women in 2016 among all metropolitan cities, with a crime rate of 182.1 per 100,000 women, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau on Thursday.

Lucknow, with 159.8 crimes, and Jaipur at 144.1 crimes against every one lakh people, came second and third on the list. The national average of crimes against women in cities was 77.2.

“Cases under crime against women have reported increase of 2.9% in 2016 over 2015. Majority of cases under crimes against women were reported under ‘Cruelty by Husband or His Relatives’ (32.6%) followed by ‘Assault on Women with Intent to Outrage her Modesty’ (25.0%), ‘Kidnaping & Abduction of Women’ (19.0%) and ‘Rape’ (11.5%),” report states.

Among states, Delhi has been ranked first, with 160.4 crimes against a population of one lakh women, followed by Assam (131.3 crimes) and Odisha (84.5). Uttar Pradesh recorded 14.5% of the cases of crimes committed against women, followed by West Bengal at 9.6%.

Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have reported the highest incidents of rape with 4,882 cases (12.5%) and 4,816 (12.4%) followed by Maharashtra 4,189 (10.7%) during 2016. Rape cases have reported increase of 12.4% from 34,651 cases in 2015 to 38,947 in 2016.
