Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday transferred 84 IAS and 54 IPS officers of around two dozen districts, the biggest reshuffle since he took over partly aimed at ending officer-lawmaker row.
The eye-catching among the transfers are that of SSP Ghaziabad Deepak Kumar who has been sent to Lucknow and SSP Saharanpur Luv Kumar has been made the SSP of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Luv Kumar had broken apart a procession by BJP lawmaker Raghav Lakhanpal , who insisted on taking a rally through the communally sensitive Janakpuri area.
The lawmaker had called Kumar worthless (nalayak), and he and his supporters protested outside the residence of the SSP. They damaged a CCTV camera and removed his nameplate.
The two FIRs registered in connection with the incidents mentioned the BJP MP was present at the rally and during attack on the officer’s residence.
Kumar’s transfer is an attempt to cool off the tension between the lawmaker, who refused to apologise, and the officer who got the backing of the powerful central IPS association.
However, the government, by moving Kumar to Gautam Buddh Nagar, has conveyed that the shift is not a punishment.
