Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed by his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on the ongoing situation amid a deadly conflict that has killed over 1,000 people and wounded thousands on either sides.

India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, Modi said on Tuesday. "I thank Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his phone call and providing an update on the ongoing situation. People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," he said on X.

Israel witnessed a surprise and unprecedented attack by Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, in its southern parts on Saturday morning.

The conflict had visible effects on India's politics with the Congress Working Commitee passing a resolution reiterating its long-standing support for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity while also calling for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations on all outstanding issues, and the BJP terming Congress's resolution as 'supporting terrorist groups'.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya criticised the CWC resolution and accused the Congress of being “hostage to minority vote bank politics.” The BJP also compared the situation in Israel with the terrorist attacks India had faced during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime on their social media pages. “What Israel is facing today, India suffered between 2004-14. Never forgive, never forget…,” the party said.

Meanwhile, the Congress also pointed out that while PM Modi was quick to react to the conflict in West Asia, he took 78 days to speak about the violence in Manipur.
