Nine security personnel deployed for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's security tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, news agency ANI reported.

On August 5, jail authorities shifted the incarcerated RJD president to Kelly’s Bungalow from Ranchi's Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the hospital where he was admitted earlier.

The nine infected personnel have been relieved of their duties. RIMS has requested concerned authorities to deploy nine new security personnel, said Dr Umesh Prasad, treating physician of Yadav.

Earlier, thee of Yadav's personal caretakers had tested positive for the coronavirus on July 25. Following this, doctors who were treating him submitted a proposal to move him to the Bungalow to prevent the septuagenarian from contracting Covid-19.

The RJD chief, convicted in a fodder scam case in December 2017, was admitted to RIMS within two months of his incarceration due to worsening health conditions.
