Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked him to clarify on Rafale deal or People Will Say "Chowkidaar Chor Hai."

“There are a lot of promises but no delivery. We will ask questions but they will try to divert public attention. People will call you chowkidaar till the time you don’t answer these questions,” said Sinha in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's rally. He also added, "Agar sach kehna baghawat hai toh samjho hum bhi baghi hain. Main sach ke saath, sidhanton se samjhouta nahi kar sakta (If saying truth is a crime then, then I'm a lawbreaker. Along with truth, I cannot compromise with rules).

Before Shatrughan, the Former BJP leader and journalist Arun Shourie while speaking at the event also targeted Modi government and called it a "government of lies." Shourie also termed Rafale Jet deal as "India's biggest defence scam." He also accused the current government of destroying central institutions like the CBI, RBI, and other institutions.

Addressing a huge gathering at the mega rally in Kolkata on Saturday, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said the Narendra Modi government's expiry date is over and it is time for a new morning for the nation. Almost all opposition parties except the Biju Janata Dal and the Communist parties attended the rally.

"Modiji's expiry date is over just as a medicine packet's expiry date gets over. Its time for a new morning now," she said.

"It is the soil of Bengal that has shown the way, even before Independence. West Bengal has always led the way," said Banerjee.

"When you have not spared anyone, including all those politicians on this stage, then why should we spare you?" asks Mamata Banerjee.

The mega rally organised by the TMC is being seen as a first step towards the formation of a coalition against the BJP ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
