After the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered a floor test to be conducted in Maharashtra, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP combine will emerge as winners in the Maharashtra Assembly.

"Absolutely," Gandhi said when asked if she is confident of winning the floor test which will be held on Wednesday.

Gandhi made the remark at a joint opposition protest over political developments in Maharashtra in front of the Ambedkar statue inside Parliament complex in New Delhi.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the floor test should be over by 5 pm on Wednesday and no secret ballot during the floor test in Maha assembly should be allowed.

The Supreme Court order on holding the crucial floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly to ascertain whether Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis enjoyed a majority came after the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Congress filed a petition, questioning the manner in which the Governor of Maharashtra invited and administered the oath to Devendra Fadnavis.

The apex court also directed Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to ensure that all elected members of the house are sworn in on Wednesday itself. The entire exercise has to be completed by 5 pm.

The Governor will also appoint a pro-tem speaker who will administer the oath to the newly elected members.
