The Jharkhand High Court granted bail to a former Member of Parliament and five other on the condition that they deposit an amount of Rs 35,000 each in PM-CARES fund.
According to a report in Live Law, Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary also directed the petitioners to download the Arogya Setu App after getting released.
The court directed the petitioners to show the proof of payment of Rs 35,000 to the PM-CARES fund.
"The petitioners shall show proof of payment of Rs. 35,000 each in the ‘Prime Minister’s Citizens Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund’ before the learned court below prior to their release," the court said in its order.
Former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Som Marandi and five others had been booked for holding a ‘rail roko agitation’ on March 15, 2012. The railway judicial magistrate had convicted the petitioners to one-year imprisonment.
Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation(PM-CARES) fund was recently created to be utilized for fighting the Coronavirus pandemic and any similar issues that might arise in the future.
The fund has received donations from common people and celebrities and politicians alike.
Arogya Setu App, designed to control the spread of coronavirus, helps in finding out corona positive people present in the nearby areas. It also makes data and information regarding Covid-19 accessible to anyone who downloads the app.
"The petitioners shall download the ‘Aarogya Settu App’ immediately after being released from custody and shall abide by the directions of the Central Government as well as State Government issued in connection with the containment of Covid-19 pandemic," the court order added.
