ASEAN's unity and centrality has always been an important priority for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.

Virtually addressing the India-ASEAN Summit, Modi said India's Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN's Outlook for the Indo-Pacific are the framework for their shared vision and mutual cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Noting that 2022 will mark the completion of 30 years of the India-ASEAN partnership, the prime minister said the important milestone will be celebrated as the 'ASEAN-India Friendship Year'.

The Prime Minister had earlier highlighted India's respect for the shared values of multilateralism, international order, law and soverignty and territorial integrity of all states, ahead of his address, he tweeted -  

ASEAN or Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an economic union comprising 10 member states in Southeast Asia, which facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration between its members and other countries in Asia.

Modi also said that mutual cooperation in Covid era will keep strengthening the India-ASEAN relations in the future.
