External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday appealed on Twitter for help to get in touch with the family of Shikha Garg, one of the four Indians killed in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash on Sunday.
Sushma tweeted, "I am trying to reach the family of Shikha Garg who has unfortunately died in the air crash. I have tried her husband's number many times. Please help me reach her family."
The Indian Embassy in Ethiopia had informed the External Affairs Minister that the deceased Indian nationals are Vaidya Pannagesh Bhaskar, Vaidya Hansin Annagesh, Nukavarapu Manisha and Shikha Garg.
Shikha Garg was a Consultant with the Ministry of Environment and Forests. She was travelling to attend the UNEP meeting in Nairobi.
Responding to a relative from the Vaidya family, Swaraj said: "I have spoken to the son of Mr Vaidya in Toronto. I am shocked you have lost six members of your family in air crash. My heartfelt condolences. I have asked Indiain Embaasy in Kenya and the India Embassy in Ethiopia to reach you immediately. They will provide help and assistance in respect of all your family members."
Replying to a tweet from a relative of N Manisha, the minister said she has asked the Indian High Commissioner in Nairobi, Rahul Chhabra, to provide them with all help and assistance.
People from 35 countries were reportedly on board flight ET 302 when it ploughed into a field 60 kilometres southeast of Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Airlines said the plane had taken off at 8:38 am (0538 GMT) from Bole International Airport and "lost contact" six minutes later.
