The Election Commission on Sunday removed Uma Shankar as District Magistrate and District Election Officer for Bankura in West Bengal and appointed 2008 batch IAS officer Mukta Arya to the post
The transfer followed complaints against DM-cum-DEO Shankar after a clash between TMC and BJP workers on Sunday.
Arya has been asked to join her new assignment immediately, as per an order of the Election Commission.
"The Commission had directed that Ms Mukta Arya (RR-2008), IAS to be posted as DM-cum-District Election Officer (DEO) with immediate effect," an order from the EC to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal on Sunday said.
"The new officer should join before commencement of scrutiny tomorrow," the EC order said.
In Bankura, TMC's Subrata Mukherjee is pitted against Dr Subhas Sarkar of the BJP. The CPI(M) has fielded Amiya Patra.
Eight seats of West Bengal went to polls in the sixth phase on May 12. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
