The Jawaharlal Nehru University has undertaken a security audit of hostels to check stay of outsiders and unauthorised students, following the January 5 violence on the campus, the JNU administration said.
The police on January 7 had requested the administration to do an audit of hostels for outsiders or unauthorised students.
A notice issued by the adminstration said that in case an outsider or an unauthorised guest is found inside a hostel room , action will be taken against the resident student. The notice also said that an unauthorised guest or an outsider will be reported to the police.
The notice comes after the JNU Vice-Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar said on Saturday that many outsiders, who are illegally staying in hostels, are responsible for fanning violence in the campus.
"The problem is that many illegal students are staying in hostels, they could be outsiders, they may be participating in any possible violence because they have nothing to do with the university," he said.
