Six people have died and two others received injuries after their car hit a road divider in Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand. A police officer said the accident took place near Circuit House Square in Bistupur police station area around 5 am.
"Total of 8 people, all residents of Adityapur, were there in the car at the time of the accident. Five died on the spot while one died during the treatment. Two survivors are critically injured. Further investigation underway," Jamshedpur police said.
Jamshedpur Senior Superintendent of Police Kaushal Kishore said that the car was at a high speed, adding that the impact of the accident was so high that all eight persons got trapped inside the car and they were taken out by using a gas cutter.
He added that all of them were residents of Baba Ashram in RIT police station area of Saraikela-Kharswan district.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over loss of six lives in a road accident. "Heartbroken by the sad news of death of 6 people in a road accident in Jamshedpur. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this difficult time of grief," Soren wrote on X. He also wished for speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
In another accident two days ago, at least eight students were injured after a school bus coming from Koderma district overturned in state capital Ranchi on Saturday, police said. The incident took place near Doctor Mod between Sikidiri and Hundru falls, police said.
Of the eight students, three girls received head injuries and were referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science here, Sikidiri police station in-charge Satya Prakash Ravi told PTI.
"The bus was carrying 61 students and teachers of Unique Progressive High School in Jai Nagar to Ranchi's Hundru falls. It overturned while trying to save a motorcyclist who was overtaking the bus," Ravi said.
"Three students are undergoing treatment at RIMS while the rest of them have left for Koderma," he said.
