The Jharkhand Police have arrested the principal and the teacher of a school in the Tetulmari area of Dhanbad district, a day after a class 10 student died by suicide allegedly after she was slapped by the accused teacher for wearing a 'bindi' on her forehead to school.
The deceased, identified as Usha Kumari (16) took her life on Monday after she was allegedly humiliated and slapped by a woman teacher in her school because she wore a 'bindi' on her forehead.
According to the reports by PTI, the Tetulmari police station in-charge Ashish Kumar Yadav informed that the minor girl had left a suicide note in her room where she allegedly held the principal of the school and the woman teacher who slapped her responsible for the incident.
The suicide note was addressed to the Tetulmari police station officer in charge and the student mentioned that she could not tolerate the insult she received in school and she preferred death. She also requested that the police take action against the two accused.
The girl hanged herself to death from the ceiling fan in her house after going back from school o Monday, said the police to PTI. She lived in Hanumangarhi Colony which is 25 km from the district headquarters.
The police seized the suicide note from the girl's home and lodged an FIR against the two accused.
Reportedly the police took no action after 24 hours of the incident so the family members of the girl sat on the road with her body till 10 am demanding the arrest of the two accused by the girl in her note.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Baghmara region Nisha Murmu met the family of the deceased and assured them of taking action against the guilty.
Ashish Kumar Yadav then arrested both the accused from school in the afternoon.
The family members of the girl alleged that when her mother went to the school to lodge a complaint against the teacher for slapping and humiliating her daughter for putting 'bindi' on her forehead, the principal sent her back.
