The Karnataka state Congress will be silently protesting at 300 locations across the state beginning today from Bengaluru, to raise awareness about rampant corruption in the BJP-led state government.
Congress legislator N A Haris during a press conference on Sunday evening stated that the state-wide protests will be organized in front of 51 metro stations and 26 flyovers and 200 traffic signals in the city, as per the Indian Express. Adding that the protests will be held without disturbing the traffic movement, "Congress workers will hold placards and protest against the state government,” he said.
Former state Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar, Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala will be participating in the protest at Trinity Circle. The protests and Congress's attack on BJP have been seen as a party-level move as the state prepares for assembly elections this year.
ANI reported Haris stating, “The state government is not ready to respond to the corruption charges. We have now decided to launch a protest and fight against it. Tomorrow our protest will be held at more than 300 locations in Bengaluru,” during the press conference. The opposition has earlier attacked the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government and even launched a PayCM campaign in Karnataka. Calling the government a "40 per cent government", the Karnataka congress suggested that a "40 per cent commission is sought for all that needs to be done" under the government.
The BJP has hit back at the Congress and alleged that Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are known for corruption. A Karnataka BJP tweet read, “Congress party is talking about corruption today. Leaders who have no morals are not giving any basis for their words. They follow the old formula of lying a hundred times and pretending it to be true.”
