A 55-year-old man under the influence of alcohol in Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka attacked his wife, biting off her eyes and cheeks following an altercation between the two on Monday night.
The woman was found unconscious and critically injured on Tuesday morning. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The drunk man used a helmet to attack his wife, and then bit her face, leaving her bleeding and unconscious. The incident happened on Monday night after an argument between the man and the woman who are residents of the Belthangady Taluk of Dakshin Kannada district, according to a report by India Today.
The accused husband has been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means (IPC 323, 324, 326), the report said.
The accused also attacked their daughter who had come to her mother's rescue. The daughter too is undergoing treatment along with her mother at a local hospital.
The incident comes close on the heels of another gory attack in Belagavi district of the state wherein a woman was allegedly assaulted, paraded naked and tied to an electric pole in a village after her son eloped with a girl who was to get engaged with someone else, according to Karnataka police.
