A group of six to seven men verbally abused and assaulted an interfaith couple after barging into a hotel room where the two were staying in Karnataka's Haveri district.
The attackers forcefully entered the premises, opened the couple's room and subjected them to physical assault upon learning about the interfaith couple booking a hotel room on January 7.
The attackers verbally abused the couple and filmed the woman during the assault. Two suspects have been apprehended by the police so far.
According to an NDTV report, the footage shows the men waiting outside the lodge, recording the room number, and then forcefully entering the couple's room.
The woman, attempting to shield her face with a burqa, was brutally attacked by the men, causing her to fall to the floor. The man was also assaulted and caught by some of the attackers when attempting to escape. The videos captured the assailants cornering the woman near the bed, hitting her, and dragging her to the floor again.
Reportedly the couple filed a complaint at the Hanagal police station. The attackers are said to belong to the minority community and have been charged with attempting to murder, kidnapping and outraging the modesty of a woman.
Haveri Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar reportedly told India Today, “Two arrests have been made and we are further identifying the accused. We will arrest three to four more people soon.”
“Initially it was an assault case and we arrested two people. However, based on the statement of the victims, we are looking to add sections such as kidnapping, outraging the modesty of a woman, assaulting a woman, and attempt to murder," he added.
