Kerala police have arrested a man who allegedly wrote a letter threatening a suicide bomb attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will embark on a two-day visit to the state starting Monday.
The Kochi resident who was identified as writing the letter denied the allegations but expressed the suspicion that a person who held a grudge towards him was likely to be behind the incident.
Kerala BJP chief K Surendran earlier claimed that the office received a threat letter against the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports, the letter which was written in Malayalam, was passed on by Surendran to the police last week. The police then traced down a person named N K Johny, whose address was present in the letter, which claimed that Modi would face the fate of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Mathrubhumi reported that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has also taken cognisance of the letter and has directed authorities concerned to remain vigilant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kerala on April 24 for a two-day visit and attend a host of programmes including the flagging off of the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express train.
The BJP state unit, which is making all arrangements to accord a grand reception to the PM, shared a poster on Facebook announcing his visit, saying the "world leader" was coming to Kerala and tens of thousands of people would take part in a huge road show in Kochi on April 24.
