The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is likely to hand over the investigations of the Indian High Commission attacks in the United States and Canada to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), as per media reports.

A team of NIA is already investigating the attacks on the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom.

About the attacks

Amid the spiralling protests regarding fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh, attacks took place at Indian High Commission in San Francisco and Canada.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police filed two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the attacks.

It has been reported that a grenade was also thrown during the attack on the Indian High Commission in Canada, which prompted the Special Cell to file an FIR under the UAPA and the Explosive Act in this case.

A similar attack on the Indian High Commission was witnessed in San Francisco, United States as well.

Five-member team investigating attack in London

A five-member team of the NIA has already been deployed to probe the pro-Khalistani protests, during which the national flag at the Indian High Commission was pulled down in March this year.

The team reached London on May 23.

The NIA team also carried a list of those with Khalistani links, which would be handed over to the British authorities and security agencies in London.

The Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalisation (CTCR) division of the MHA handed over the case to NIA on April 18.
