The Met department on Tuesday forecast thunderstorms with light rainfall in various districts of Vidarbha in the next five days.
It also advised farmers in the Nagpur area to harvest their ready crops. Regional Meteorological Centre, Nagpur, forecast thunderstorm with lightning and light-to-moderate rainfall in Nagpur, Gadchiroli,
Chandrapur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim districts between March 14 to March 18, said a senior official.
Deputy Director General of Meteorology M L Sahu told PTI that "wind discontinuity" will form over Central India across Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, and there is upper air cyclonic circulation associated with this wind discontinuity.
Moisture incursion will take place from Bay of Bengal. Due to this there is possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms, he said.
The RMC in its release asked farmers in Nagpur and Amravati region to quickly harvest their ready wheat, harbara (chana/gram), mustard, flaxseed (javas) and other crops.
It also asked farmers to cover harvested crops with plastic sheets and go to safer places in the farm when lightning starts.
