Three cases of rape and sexual harassment were reported from different parts of Madhya Pradesh in the last 48 hours.

The incidents once again raises questions about women’s safety in India.

On Sunday, a three-year-old girl was brutally raped, bitten all over her body, subjected to barbaric torture and later murdered in Madhya Pradesh, reported PTI.

The mutilated body of the child was later found around 2 kilometres away from her home in the village of Mohad in Burhanpur district.

In another incident, a 14-year-old girl was raped by two men in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district on Monday night. According to reports, the minor girl had gone out to bring fodder to create smoke for keeping mosquitoes at bay.

As she came out of the home, two persons overpowered her and took her to a nearby deserted hut at knife-point, where they allegedly raped her. When the girl shouted for help, her pet dog came for her rescue.

On the same day, a 23-year-old student was killed in Madhya Pradesh after she refused to withdraw a harassment case she had filed. The girl was dragged by her hair while on her way to college and her head smashed with a stone by the man who was allegedly putting pressure on her to withdraw the sexual harassment complaint against him.

According to the recent NCRB data, in the last 15 years, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a 532 per cent increase in cases of rape against children.
