Three members of the Manipur Assembly, representing the Kuki Zo community, have been relieved from their chairmanship positions on various committees, according to official notifications. Mayanglambam Rameshwor, an MLA from the Kakching assembly constituency affiliated with the National People's Party (NPP), has been appointed as the new chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings, succeeding LM Khaute of the Churachandpur seat, as reported by PTI.
In another announcement, Losii Dikho, an NPF MLA from Mao constituency, has taken over the role of chairman for the Committee on Government Assurances from Haokholet Kipgen, an Independent MLA representing Saitu constituency. Additionally, K Ibomcha, a BJP MLA from Lamlai, has been named the new chairman of the Assembly Library Committee, replacing Vungzagin Valte, a BJP MLA from Thanlon constituency in Churachandpur district.
While the notifications issued on Wednesday did not provide specific reasons for the replacements, Rule 198 (2) of the Assembly allows the Speaker to appoint a new chairman if the incumbent is unable to fulfill their duties for any reason. Notably, the reshuffling comes amid broader concerns and incidents, such as the unfortunate assault on Vungzagin Valte during ethnic violence in Manipur between Meiteis and Kukis.
