Cardinal Poola Anthony Archbishop of Hyderabad has expressed his concerns over the recent Manipur violence that resulted in attacks on Christians and several churches in the state.

The archbishop has given his statement expressing his concern over the matter and asked the authorities for 'a thorough investigation into these attacks' and 'bring the perpetrators to justice.'

The archbishop said, "I sincerely express my solidarity with the affected communities. While condemning these despicable acts, we ask our faithful Christians and defenders of democracy not to react violently."

The media reports have shown the plight of the Christian communities in Manipur with Churches vandalised and put on fire. The archbishop says, "The lives of the people especially the Christians are at danger. The Christian communities are displaced and are under threat."

He added, "Places of worship, such as churches, hold immense significance for believers They serve as sacred spaces where individuals gather to seek solace, find strength, and nurture their spiritual lives. The attack on these holy sites not only violates the sanctity of these places but also inflicts pain, fear, and sorrow upon the faithful."

The archbishop urges the government and the concerned parties for diplomatic efforts and peaceful negotiations in the hope to foster an environment of tolerance and to ensure people from all religions can stay safe and in harmony.

The archbishop also wrote, "To the affected communities, I offer my heartfelt condolences, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Know that you are not alone, and the entire archdiocese stands in solidarity with you. We will work tirelessly to assist you in rebuilding and healing the wounds inflicted upon your faith communities."

He concluded by saying, "Let us engage in interfaith dialogue, fostering a spirit of understanding and cooperation that can lead us towards a future free from violence and discrimination."

According to reports, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bengaluru has said, "It is with deep concern that we note the resurgence of the targeting and persecution of Christians in the peaceful state of Manipur in the North East, where the Christian population comprises 41%. We have received reports that three churches built in 1974 and some houses have been set on fire, and the people have been forced to flee to safer places."

The clash between Kuki-Zomi and Meitei communities has even cost the loss of life in Manipur. The Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tweeted this morning claiming that the situation has gotten better in the state.
